As an NASM Youth Exercise Specialist (YES), you’ll help youth clients ages 6 to 19 attain their fitness goals—whether it’s improving sport skills, increasing physical activity levels, or weight loss. You’ll have the knowledge and skills to develop a fun and safe plan of action, specific to youth needs and developmental stages.
Grow your career. You’ll have the advantage to reach the growing youth market with your expertise. With the decline of physical activity opportunities in the schools, more and more fitness facilities are offering youth programming - and they need fitness professionals that can help meet the demand. You can also reach out to your clients with children, after-school programs, and youth sports teams to offer additional exercise and training opportunities.
Make exercise a positive experience. You’ll help youth clients experience exercise success by designing activities specific to their ability levels and goals. Since youth can have different responses to exercise, you’ll know how to choose appropriate modifications to keep the activities safe and enjoyable.
Reverse the obesity trend. You’ll be part of the obesity solution by helping youths—and their parents— adopt a healthier lifestyle with exercise and nutritional guidance. Share how an active lifestyle and better food choices can keep youth on a healthy path for life.
Organize youth exercise programs. You’ll be able to confidently train youths in groups or individually using the Optimum Performance Training™ (OPT™) model. You’ll also keep participants on task by modifying activities to meet the needs of various ability levels.
